Music & a Conversation on LGBTQ+ issues Saturday 3/12 at 6pm

From the organizer, Lydia Underwater: In light of the world being dark, Sama & I have decided to organize a show where the main focus is community building.

Music & Discussion are the medium for it.

Playing that evening will be….

Tuffy Red! I’m excited that they are playing.
Leeah Swift! I am also really excited they are playing.
Sama! All the way from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, how exciting is that!
Quiet Earth! also really exciting!
and, Lydia Underwater, that is me, I smile a lot.

Afterwords, we’ll have a panel discussion about the current issues facing queer & transgender individuals, as that is something that is currently plaguing a lot of our lives. And it is very constructive to dissect these things.

I hope you can all make it, it’s going to be super rad!

12715779_10207448220737005_7995331433408078185_n

March 4 – March 6
Mar 4 at 5 PM to Mar 6 at 5 PM (Please see the web site below for more information)

In the interest of providing health care to our communities, we are organizing another 20-hour street medic training! Please plan to attend the entire course. There are breaks on Sat and Sun to allow you to tend to your lives, but the training is one event.

This ~20 hour course is designed to provide the participants with basic first aid skills, as well as specialized skills focused on protest situations.
Skills taught are patient assessment, treatment for wounds, head/neck injuries, illnesses/allergic reactions, heat and cold concerns, chemical burns, “less lethal” weapons injuries, when to seek higher medical care, and general preparedness for changing or unpredictable situations.
Street Medicine is not only for protesters: the course is designed to empower participants to take an active role in keeping themselves and their communities healthy and safe, while reducing their dependence on industrialized medical systems that are often inaccessible or hostile to many people.

Please see detailed class information on the website: https://northstarhealth.wordpress.com/

Improv is for Everybody

12718361_1268770746483223_8967481884026146869_n

Tuesday March 1st 6-8pm

From the facilitator, Banji: I’ve learned that I am more comfortable showing some emotions than others. I’ve also learned that behaving in some ways seem more natural to me than others. Trying to portray emotions and behaviours that you don’t normally express can be very challenging so we are going to try and do that during improv.
6: 00 – 6:30 Introductions
The first half hoir will be devoted to getting to know each other a little bit. We will also figure out what everyone hopes to do in terms of either watching or participating. We will also talk about things like stage fright and what makes improv difficult.

6:30 – 6:45 Shouting/Whispering Exercise
Some folks are soft spoke. They don’t like to raise their voice. They can try shouting screaming or just being loud. People who are normally loud will try and be quiet and softspokn.

6:45 – 6:50 Break
Since behaving in ways you are not used to can be trying for folks we shall have a five minute break.

6:50 – 7:15 Opposite Behaviour
Spend a few minutes thinking of who you are. Then try and portray a character who you perceive as being the complete opposite of you.

7:15 – 7:20 Break
Since portraying someone who is the complete opposite of you can be emotionally and physically taxing we shall take a five minute break.

7:20 – 8:00 Scientist, Accountant, Panhandler
To wrap it up the actors will portray either an accountant, a scientist, or a panhandler. If you want to however portray some other job.

8:00 – 8:15 A Panhandler, Scientist, and Accountat Walk Into a Donut Shop…….
To wrap it up we shall imagine our heroes from the last skit meeting in a donut shop and having a conversation that’s at cross purposes because instead of really talking to each other they keep talking about the donuts from the perspective of either a panhandler, and accountant or a scientist. To make this easier they are all considering the same donut. A cream filled bismark if you like.

Since improv is for everbody just like feminism this really isn’t about compettiton. or making suggestions about other folks performance, or even really your own. It will hopefully be fun for everybody.
